Khao Sok National Park was established in 1980 as Thailand’s 22nd National Park. It consists of a thick native rainforest, waterfalls, majestic limestone cliffs and an island stubbed lake. Due to its fascinating history, this National Park still has many secrets hidden in its deep forests yet to uncover.
Thailand Climate at Khao Sok National Park
Khao Sok has warm temperatures throughout the whole year, with the statistically hottest months being March and April. However, temperatures only change at a range of 4 degrees Celsius during the year, varying between average maximum temperatures of 29 to 33 degrees to average minimum temperatures from 20 to 23 degrees.
The Unseen in Khao Sok National Park
Khao Sok’s rainforest is partly tropical evergreen forest and partly tropical rainforest. There are approximately 200 different floral species found here per hectare, making it one of the most bio-diverse areas (average forests in Europe or North America have only about 10 tree species per hectare).
Rafflesia kerrii origin is the native to the rainforest of southern Thailand. they have the most famous population in the Khao Sok National Park.
It is a parasite to the wild grapes of the genus Tetrastigma, but only the flowers are visible. Small buds appear along the trunk and roots of the host, which after 9 months open the giant flowers. After just one week the flower dies. It seems to be flowering seasonally, as flowers are only reported during the dry season, from January to March, and more rarely till July. The red flowers is up to 3 feet (90 cm) and smell awfully of rotten meat to attract flies for pollination.
Khao Sok National Park is home to many beautiful and truly amazing animals. With 48 mammal species, 311 different species of birds, more than 30 species of bats and countless reptiles and insects the animal kingdom in Khao Sok is more than diverse.
Include, Wildlife Reserve such as tapir, chamois, barking deer, Marbled cat, etc. There are also Wild Elephants, Gaur, Tiger, Leopard, Macaque, Gibbon, Spectacled Langur, Pangolin, Flying squirrel, Wild Boar, Bamboo Rat, Mouse deer, Black Giant Squirrel, etc.
Khao Sok National Park is home to 311 different bird species. From the tiniest sunbirds to the majestic Great Hornbill, which has a wingspan of more than 1.5 meters. Also, you can see the famous ice blue kingfishers can frequently here.
